Summer Basketball Camp - Owings Mills, MD Patch. Why blog about summer camps in early February? My view is that you need to do your due diligence and then discuss the options with your child. My passion is finding the best sports camps for athletes in elementary, middle and high school. The first question is what sport(s) does your child enjoy? How committed to sports is your child? What dates are best for your family's summer schedule? The biggest issue I see these days are camps that can't define what they actually provide to the child. Does the camp have a fun environment, yet the training is average at best? Are you selecting a camp just because your child's friends are going to the same camp? Most sports day camps are sport specific and provide five days of training. I want to focus on basketball camps in this blog. I have researched the options, and have spoken with many parents to get their opinion on these various options. Top 5 Basketball Camps that offer sessions for boys and girls: 1. IMG - This is not a day camp, however, they are the #1 camp - hands down. I will warn you that it is pricey - but well worth it. Located in FL, they have an amazing staff, very well organized, international competition, gym opens at 6 a. Everyone I have spoken too has only positive reviews for IMG. Premier Basketball Camp - This is a new day camp that has gotten a lot of attention in the area. There he learned to play basketball on a patch of gravel in an impoverished neighborhood. Jones and another new face, a young guard named Sam Jones, broke in as important reserves for Cousy and Sharman. The two Joneses complemented one while.Derek Brooks DONATE Social Media Coach Evaluation Practice Schedule Want to Coach? After speaking with the director, and a few their few staff members, including Juan Dixon, it seems as though their goal is to be the traveling IMG. They feature the biggest name in the University of Maryland's Basketball history in Juan Dixon. Juan was a first team All- American, Schools leading scorer, and first round NBA selection. I was told that Juan will be at the camp and won't be making just an appearance. He is fully vested in this brand and to me this gives Premier Basketball Camp instant credability. I also learned that Coach Terry Truax will also play a large role in the daily stations, strategy, and itinerary. Truax was the Men's Head Basketball Coach at Towson State University for 1. NCAA Tournamanet appearances. What makes Premier my second choice is that many of the camps in the local area are run by Varsity and JV Coaches. Premier's staff is the real deal. They have IMO They have the best staff - No comparison. They also focus on what they call their . These include: The mental aspect of the game, speed & agility and of course basketball training and EVEN white board sessions. This is unheard of for a day camp. I also like their approach by seperating their sessions. They currently have a session for girls (adding 2 more), and three sessions for boys. It's very reasonable priced at $3. Like all camps, campers will recieve a t- shirt. One little perk is that each child will get their photo taken with Juan Dixon, and they will be autographed and placed into frame. The speed and agility alone would cost $5. This camp is for the basketball player that has played and has a passion for the game, or for those just starting and are exciting to learn the game. They will receive excellent instruction, learn the true nuances of the game, get speed and agility training on a daily basis (huge aspect that none of the local camps provide) and learn the mental aspects of the game. To put it simply, they have all the right pieces in place to be the top basketball camp in the area for 2. Pros: Best staff in area, hands down, Juan Dixon & Terry Truax, itinerary is so detailed and skills learned will help child for years to come, speed and agility training, weekly evaluation, mental training and strategy. Morgan Wootten Basketball Camp. Morgan Wootten's reputation as one of the best coaches hasnt gone unnoticed. Enough said! The Day Camp is located at Bishop O'Connell High School and other local Gymnasiums. Very good instructional camp and been in the business for a very long time. The location is a bit far, but may be worth your time. Girls and boys sessions are available. No speed and agility, no white board training, far away. Pros: Wootten knows the game. Visit www. coachwootten. Others. 4. Five. Star - Lost it's luster, more of a rec camp, much better options out there for your child. Done well in past due to lack of competition. Opportunity to play in full court games. Feel free to contact us with other camps or questions. The views expressed in this post are the author's. Registered users are welcome to post on Patch.
